InterWined: It’s in good taste
Blame it on the power of perception or Robert Parker if you must, but it seems like everybody that writes about wine feels the need to rate it.
Well, InterWined.com isn’t everybody.
Picture this, you’re sat at your desk trying to look busy while surreptitiously surfing the ‘net. It’s nearly time to go home and you feel like a bottle of wine after work. You’re feeling a bit adventurous and want to try something other than that bottle of Hardy’s or Gallo that’s forever on special, but never seems it. So, you visit the wine blogs looking for some advice.
Some critics boast the sheer number of wines they’ve reviewed on their site, as if volume equalled anything more than volume — you might call that the McDonald’s method of wine criticism.
Others like to tell you how they chanced upon a rare bottle of 1992 Penfolds Grange Shiraz that Robert Parker gave 92 points when he reviewed it in 2002. That’s great for them and might possibly make for an interesting read, but you’re hardly likely to find it sitting on your stockist’s shelves. Plus, if you did find it, you’d learn that it currently retails for more than a £100 a bottle.
Wouldn’t it be so much easier, if someone just told you what a wined tasted like and if they thought it was worth the price?
After all, just because a wine critic gave a wine 85 out of 100 points, doesn’t mean you’re going to like it.
That’s where InterWined.com comes in.
InterWined drinks wine — loads of wine — and good wine at that. (In fact, let old man InterWined’s cirrhosis be your guide). The thing is InterWined only rates wines (mostly in the £5–£10 range) that it likes and thinks you’ll like too.
That means InterWined drinks quite a bit of wine that it doesn’t like too, but you won’t know it, ‘cause InterWined won’t mention it. (Life’s too short for bad wine.)
So, when you read InterWined.com, read it for the colourful commentary and reviews and because it’s well–written. Then, when you’re feeling a bit adventurous, conduct a search by grape or colour or region; find what you want; and go buy the wine.
If InterWined rated it, it must be good.
