Liquid Refreshment

InterWined set itself a challenge: go into the wine section of a market and grab the first bottle that grabs you. Did so at a North London market named Woody’s…and thought we nabbed a red wine from Italy. In fact, we swore the wine was red right up to the point we poured it into a glass.

This was the moment it became pretty obvious the wine was white.

It was at this point that we decided to read the label: 2005 Liduni Rena Bianca, Vermentino di Gallura Of course! Vermentino is a white wine grape. Grown in Gallura, Sardinia…. This final point is amusing, because Vermentino famously goes with seafood, and the Liduni was paired, with great success, the next evening (chilled) with toasted sardines.

The wine kind of feels like an oil slick in the mouth, so it can be prepared with some sparkling water and a slice of lemon to help ease that heavy load. Otherwise, for those who like white wines light and dry, this wine will feel like its driving down the spirits road.

The sardines were prepared Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall-style, with several pierced through the tail with a metal skewer, then the whole ‘rack’ was lowered into InterWined’s extra wide toaster.

Viola! A quick and easy, perfectly-paired snack. 8.8 points.

The only thing we need now is a new toaster.
