Liquid Refreshment

Last Friday saw InterWined invited to four parties: a dinner at the Italian Embassy…a wine party for Covent Garden designers, Will and George…a gathering of amateur actors at a pub in Islington…and a Christmas Party for the Islington Conservatives.

InterWined.com is sorry to report it only was able to attend the latter, due to a series of unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances. The biggest problem is that the Conservative party cost £10 to enter, for some reason.

What kind of Christmas part charges at the door?

Bah humbug, and then they only provided mulled wine…a highly detested beverage round these parts. However, there is promise for more tutored tastings for the party, so there turned out to be a ‘bidness’ reason to attend…And the company is always good at the Islington Conservatives.

At any rate, been drinking loads of crap wine.

I mean, some of it has cost, like 20 quid, and tasted like rubbish. It has been extremely aggravating that there has been little good news to report.

The only one worth a mention is the 2003 Sterling Napa Valley Cabernet and the 2003 Sterling Napa Valley Merlot. Both are typical California. Cabernet is the standard peppery, fleshy, oaky, blackberry. The Merlot as well, elegant, thin, plumy, currant. Both are dear at £13 a bottle, especially since neither really reflect the Napa locations, but instead scream a vaguely California yell. And, don’t drink them alone. Instead blend 50/50 in your wine glass at home, and you’ll see why this blend is such a big deal in Bordeaux.

Sterling Cabernet or Merlot, alone: no ratings

Sterling Home Blend: 8.6 points.
