Liquid Refreshment

Jeez. I know there is supposed to be health news around this time of the week, and I have some: eating leafy vegetables decreases the amount of scar tissue after suffering a heart attack. Was going to put up 400 words or so on that study.

But…

After Monday’s opening of the Champagne Bar located in the new Eurostar terminal at St. Pancras, and last night’s mixer on the rooftop at Shoreditch House hosted by Investment Bank sweeties, Societe General, InterWined can’t believe the Christmas season shindigs have begun in earnest…already.

So, here is the report on the Champagne Bar: it’s OK, but not great. The bar is actually a tiny kiosk next to the train. Cute, but not the “longest bar in Europe,” as promoted. More like the longest seating area. And the prices? A glass of orange juice will set you back £4 ($8).

Ouch.

Best stick to the Champagne. So let’s see…the 1949 Krug costs £2,700. We’ll take two!

InterWined.com has reviewed many non-vintage Champagnes and the Champagne Bar carries most of them. Quick, quick, which is the top NV Champagne InterWined recommends? That’s right, the Perrier-Jouet!

Knew you were paying attention. We also recommend the Bruno Paillard and Ruinart.

Oh man, those investment bankers really know how to make the best of a bad situation. For those of you who live under a rock…well, that means you can’t have your mortgage securitized, so therefore the recent credit crisis has little to do with you.

For the rest of us, and by us, I mean you…because I can’t even afford a rock to live under…have faith, for the investment bankers are working hard to keep the economy moving along… and are not sparing any expense in doing so. The SocGeners even had brand new fleece blankets out for the smokers to wrap up in and keep warm near the pool. How’s that for nice?!

The Champagne was Mumm, sadly one of InterWined.com’s lesser favorites. The white wine was some sort of Chenin Blanc, probably from the Loire. It was so-so. But, as InterWined guessed correctly, the red was a 2006 Beaujolais Nouveau from Georges DuBouef. Perfectly sweet, fresh and zingy for the party.

InterWined is invited to another party on Friday. Is it Christmas time already?
