Liquid Refreshment

It’s a Chianti! It’s a Sangiovese!

No, it’s a Super Super Tuscan!

A super Tuscan is any wine from around Tuscany Italy that “breaks” the rules.

In this case, the 2000 Le Fioraie “Piemaggio”, has some Cabernet Sauvignon (wah?) and Merlot (gasp!) blended into the mix. Not being 100 percent Sangiovese grape means it can’t call itself a Chianti. But no matter, this super Tuscan may be the best valued wine out there.

Layers of leather and folds of black current. Just enough grip to make an impression, though buy now and buy alot. The differing tasting notes of the two merchants, one in the US, and one in the UK, highlight the complexity of the wine. Something for everyone. 9.4 points.

The Fine Wine House sells it for $45. They say its “dense, intensely fruity with notes of violet and vanilla. Harmonious, dry, sapid, slightly tannic, which gets finer with age and becomes soft and velvety”.

Planet of the Grapes sells it for £25. To them, it tastes of “rich blackcurrant fruit with aromas of plum and cherry, firm tannin and excellent concentration. This wine fits well into the ‘Super Tuscan’ catergory and would benefit from further cellaring, if you can keep your hands off”!

NOTE: InterWined says drink it now. You wouldn’t be able to keep your hands off anyway.
