Liquid Refreshment

InterWined is celebrating the cold, wet summer in England this year with some crisp English wines. If the weather is anything to go by (it is.), the 2007 English grape harvest is probably ruined from all of this rain. The water is going to cause the grapes to swell, and the lack of sun will mean washed-out flavors — low acid levels; little sugar. Expect dull, bland and unexciting wines.
Shame this happened so close to harvest, when the weather makes the greatest impact on the near-ripe grape. Also a shame because the 2006 vintage finally earned these people some much-needed respect.

The organic 2006 Limney, made by Davenport in Horsmonden, is a bargain at about £8 from the Organic Delivery company. Bone dry, light and refreshing. Zippy citrus (this might sound trite, but it’s true. Swear.) and light body make it perfect for a hot summer day; even though, this bottle was consumed huddled outside, late at night, in the pouring rain: 8.5. Made from five white grapes: Ortega, Faber, Siegerrebe, Bacchus, Huxelrebe.
