Liquid Refreshment

Champagne corks popping for Alberto Contador, this year’s victor of the Tour de France.

Normally, InterWined would make no mention of a sporting event unless explicitly tied to wine or food, but since InterWined.com featured the official Tour de France sausage, final coverage is needed.

This year’s Tour will go down in history tainted, unfortunately, with several drugs scandals becoming more of a focus than the race itself, but really, that’s what the organizers get for starting the race in London.

London is a city of excess and decadence, with spatters of poverty and desperation. It’s less of a melting pot and more of a bubbling stew. Just walking through some neighborhoods would compel some fellow Londoners to do a line. But not InterWined, which celebrates each day in moderation, with a scent of ‘blow’ thrown in for good measure, every weekend (check on Fridays).

So, if there is a ‘drug’ InterWined does, it would have to be Champagne. The sparkling wine from France is as tasty as it can be pricey and here are two (very different styles) that would normally fall into the ‘Blow the Bank’ category, but get space today, on this special occasion.

PS, administer these drugs orally:

Bollinger Non-Vintage Special Cuvee, light and airy, and exceptionally easy-to-drink. Green apples and very dry. Great bubbles, small and copious: 8.9.

Yellow Label Veuve Cliquot, real ‘Champagne’ like. Crisp and refreshing, with biscuit and hints of lemon and vanilla: 8.9.

Both are made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Both are a touch under £30.

Too true, mate…shame about the scandals, good race though.

FYI, I was at a barbie this weekend where a mate served Co-op Cava from Barcelona. It sparkled all well and good, but smelled like a lido. Bit ordinary, really. Bet you wouldn’t rate it?
