How to Get a Gravatar

Since the introduction of ‘SexyComments’ to InterWined.com (recently replaced with the introduction of the new layout &mdash - ed.), a lot of people have asked how to get a gravatar – and even more have asked “What exactly is a gravatar and why would I want one?”.

For starters, a gravatar is a graphic representation or picture of yourself that appears next to your name in the comments sections of Web sites and blogs.

To get one — and you should; it’s nice to put faces to names, even if it isn’t your face or your name in the end — find a picture or image on your computer or somewhere on the Internet (the smaller the better). Then, go to Gravatar.com and become a member. Don’t worry, it’s free and there are no obligations. (It’s not like one of those book-of-the-month clubs, we promise.)

When you join, the folks at Gravatar.com will immediately e-mail you a password. Be sure to check your Spam or Junk Mail for it. Armed with your picture and your password, go back to Gravatar.com and sign in.

Once you upload your image, that’s it. Gravatar.com will ensure that every time you write your e-mail address when you leave a comment on a gravatar-enabled Web site like InterWined.com your picture appears.

It’s as simple as that — four little steps: find a picture, visit the site, get a password, upload your picture — ed.
